fried chicken from owners Vera and J. Lavell Willis.
Vera, originally from Tallulah, LA., learned to cook
from her mother and grandmother. Lavell grew up in
Fresno, CA. and dreamed of owning his own restaurant.
When he was transferred to Kansas City by General
Motors, he decided this was the place and with his
wife’s old-fashioned recipes for home-cooked foods, he
opened their first restaurant, The Peach Tree, eight
years ago. The opportunity to be in the historic 18th &
Vine Jazz District motivated them to open the Peach Tree
Restaurant of Kansas City. The stylish interior evokes a
feeling of the 1930s with Southern style meals given an
elegant presentation.
